Momoland (Korean: 모모랜드) is a South Korean girl group formed past MLD Entertainment (formerly known as Duble Kick Visitor)[ane] through the 2022 reality show Finding Momoland.[2] The bear witness'southward winners Hyebin, Yeonwoo, Jane, Nayun, JooE, Ahin, and Nancy served as the original members. Their debut mini album Welcome to Momoland was released on November 10, 2016. In 2017, Momoland became a nine-member group when Daisy and Taeha joined as members. In 2019, Taeha and Yeonwoo left the grouping, and Daisy departed in 2020. The group currently consists of Ahin, Hyebin, Jane, JooE, Nancy and Nayun.

2016: Finding Momoland and Welcome to Momoland [edit]

In June 2016, Mnet's survival programme Finding Momoland began, a reality show that was created past Duble Kicking Entertainment where a group of vii members were selected from ten trainees. It was decided that the members were going to make their debut. The Final Mission could not collect iii,000 spectators, and the official debut was delayed.[3] On October 26, 2016, the group was appointed equally ambassadors for the International Relief Evolution NGO Plan Korea.

The group's debut showcase was held on November 9 of the same year. On November ten, their debut extended play Welcome to Momoland was released, and made their debut operation of their unmarried "Jjan! Koong! Kwang!" through music goggle box program K Countdown.[four] The album was fabricated possible by crowdfunding to cover the cost for producing the concrete format.[five] On Dec 27, the group except Yeonwoo, who stopped working due to lower back pain, attended SBS Gayo Daejeon.[6] In October 2016, the group were appointed as the PR ambassador for the International Relief Development NGO Plan Korea, volunteered at the Phuc Luong Hamlet in Thai Nguyen, Vietnam from December 12 to 16, 2017, to encourage Happy Mov students to participate in Kindergarten construction service.[vii]

2017: Boosted members, Wonderful Honey and Freeze! [edit]

On March 28, 2017, Daisy and Taeha joined the group.[8] Daisy also appeared in the 2022 reality show Finding Momoland as a trainee.[9] In April 2017, the group released their first unmarried album Wonderful Love, with the lead single of the same name.[10] [11] On August 22, 2017, the grouping'south second EP, Freeze! was released, with the single of the same championship.[12]

2018: Dandy! and Fun to the World [edit]

On January 3, 2018, the group released their third EP, Corking! along with the single "Bboom Bboom".[xiii] The same calendar month, Russian daughter group Serebro accused the group of plagiarizing their song "Mi Mi Mi" with "Bboom Bboom".[14] The composer of "Bboom Bboom", Shinsadong Tiger, denied the allegations by pointing out that "the bass line [is] commonly heard in retro house or electro swing genres, as well as the iv-stanza chord."[15] The group held promotional events in Tokyo and Osaka from February 28 to March 4, 2018. A showcase was besides held at Tower Records in Shibuya.[xvi] The group also signed with King Records and released their album in Japan on June xiii, 2018, with a Japanese version of their single "Bboom Bboom".[17]

On June 26, 2018, the group's quaternary EP Fun to the Globe was released, with the single "Baam".[18] [xix] On August nine, 2018, the group became the first girl group and the second human activity to earn a Platinum certification on Gaon Music Chart, for the streams of "Bboom Bboom".[20]

2019–2020: Evidence Me, Chiri Chiri, Thumbs Upward and line-upwards changes [edit]

On March 20, 2019, Momoland released their fifth EP Show Me, with the lead unmarried "I'm So Hot". The single marked their first release without Daisy and Taeha since Fun to the Globe.[21] [22] On September iv, 2019, the grouping released their kickoff Japanese studio album, Chiri Chiri without members Daisy, Taeha and Yeonwoo.[23] [24] On October 4, 2019, the group and MLD Entertainment signed a co-management understanding with the Philippine media visitor ABS-CBN Corporation.[25]

In Nov 2019, MLD Entertainment announced the departure of Yeonwoo and Taeha from the group, and stated that they were in discussions with Daisy about her future in the group.[26] On Dec 30, 2019, the group'due south 2d unmarried album Thumbs Up was released, with the lead single of the aforementioned name.[27] [28]

In January 2020, Daisy stated that the show Finding Momoland was fraudulent and had deceived viewers by manipulating the votes. She claimed that after her elimination, she was contacted by the agency with an offer to bring together the group. MLD Amusement denied the claims, and stated they would exist taking legal action against Daisy.[29] On May 13, 2020, it was announced that Daisy had left the group.[30]

2020–present: Starry Night, international expansion and Gear up or Not [edit]

On June 11, 2020, Starry Night, a not-promoted "special" EP was released, with the pb single of the aforementioned proper name.[31]

On June 29, 2020, the group have signed a contract with ICM Partners, with plans to enter into the American market place.[32]

On Nov 17, 2020, they released their third single album Set up or Non, with the lead single of the same name.[33] South Korean vocalist Psy participated as a lyricist on the song.[34]

On Feb 5, 2021, the group released a cover of "Wrap Me in Plastic" by CHROMANCE.[35]

On January 14, 2022, the group released their English unmarried "Yummy Yummy Love", in collaboration with Natti Natasha.[36]

Philanthropy [edit]

2016 [edit]

On October 26, 2016, Momoland was appointed as ambassadors for the International Relief Development NGO Plan Korea. They volunteered to fly to the Phuc Luong Village in Thai Nguyen, Vietnam, to encourage Happy Mov students to participate in Kindergarten construction service. In addition, the group had a cultural exchange event to villagers and Korean-Vietnamese civilisation and showed good response to the villagers by showing their songs on their debut album [37]

On December 7, 2016, Momoland visited Seoul University Children Hospital to participate in the Pop Civilisation Artists Talent Donation Event, where nigh 100 immature patients spent fourth dimension with Momoland and others.[38]

2017 [edit]

On May 20, 2017, Momoland participated in the "Plan Art Market to Help Children in the Global Hamlet" as ambassadors of Programme Korea, that was held to support the children of Cambodia.[39]

2018 [edit]

In February 2018, Momoland was designated as the new Korean Cherry-red Cantankerous Claret Services ambassador.[40] They participated in several events held by KRCBS and hosted a blood donation event while promoting Fun To The Earth.[41]

In June 2018, JooE and Yeonwoo participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge for a fund raising to build a hospital. Hyebin was as well nominated, but instead of doing the challenge, she donated instead.[42] In the same month, Momoland donated all of the proceeds of their Evidence Con for Fun To The Globe to assist cover medical treatments for children who were injured through car accidents.[43]

In May 2018, Momoland participated in the "Seowon Valley Clemency Green Concert".[44] In December 2018, the group visited a sick fan in a hospital from the Philippines.[45]

2019 [edit]

On May 24, 2019, Momoland participated in the "Allow's Wing One & Ane Concert", a charity concert for victims of violence and abuse.[46]

In October 2019, Momoland donated their earnings for their concert "Expert Friends in Manila" to Filipino children in need from barangays San Jose and Calawis in Antipolo City, Philippines.[47]

2020 [edit]

On April 21, 2020, the group donated 10,000 face mask cases (worth 100 one thousand thousand won) to Plan Korea to help forbid and overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.[48]

On May 8, 2020, they donated 1,180 kilograms of rice to the underprivileged through the Korean Reddish Cross.[49]

On June 26, 2020, they gave one,500 sanitary pads (worth five million won) to multicultural families in need. The women's hygiene products were from the brand On A Precious Day, who previously announced Momoland every bit their exclusive endorsers.[50] [51] The adjacent calendar month, through Practiced Neighbors, they donated 1,500 sanitary pads from On A Precious Day to low-income families.[52]

In July 2020, Momoland held at online concert chosen "Joy Angel Concert" as a social contribution project and donated the proceeds to the disadvantaged people struggling from COVID-xix.[53]

In Nov 2020, Momoland participated in SBS' "Life Sharing Concert" which meant to encourage Koreans to participate in blood donation.[54]

In the same month, they also participated in the KBS1 Open Concert "Neighborhood Love Sharing Concert", a social contribution project for the underprivileged and socially disadvantaged.[55]
